She has worked as a journalist, news editor, sub-editor, magazine editor, book editor, author, communication and marketing manager, engagement specialist and as an Executive Director managing strategic planning, governance, risk management, strategic projects and communication.

Colleen has an excellent track record of delivering results in a wide range of Government and private sector communications, strategy and engagement roles over more than 30 years. She has a background in journalism, editing and online publishing, with outstanding writing and communication skills.

Crafting stories which consider human achievements, ethical issues and courage goes to the heart of what she likes to write about. Colleen is an accomplished editor and has managed the production of numerous digital and print products.

Colleen's approach to strategy is to help clients understand the problem they are trying to solve. Once the challenges and opportunities are agreed on, the next step is to be clear about where you want to go. Good strategies are clear and coherent, and chart a clear way to achieving objectives. Setting clear actions and making sure those actions can be measured and tracked are at the heart of developing strategies that work.

People person

Colleen is an empathetic person who tries to think through the ethics of every challenging situation.

She likes to encourage and work with people constructively to get the best outcomes for teams and organisations. In her many leadership roles at newspapers, universities, government departments and in her own consultancy, Colleen considers how to collaborate to solve wicked problems.

Colleen also wrote and published children’s books and had them translated into African languages when she ran a not-for-profit in South Africa in the 1990s.
